The stars at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards were all dressed to the nines last night from head to toe in designer dresses, jewels and of course hair styles that were to die for! From strapless dresses worn by starlets Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman and Jessica Alba to plunging necklines worn by Tilda Swinton, Rooney Mara and Evan Rachel Wood—no matter what the style, the hair completed the look for many of these leading ladies.

I spotted two trends last night that were simple styles but at the same time made a big statement: HEADBANDS and BUNS. Lets start from the top:

HEADBANDS:

Last night, winner for Best Actress Michelle Williams wore a beautiful headband with a jeweled brooch, which gave a modern spin to her retro look. According to stylist Chris McMillan, “Michelle looked incredible with this short, modern Mia Farrow inspired style. It’s was a retro ‘60s combined with Flapper flair type of look that showed there’s still a lot of glamour and versatility with short hair.”

The beautiful Busy Phillips adorned a headband at the top of her head for an added touch of elegance. Simply prep wet hair with mousse and loosely dry for a textured finish. Then spray Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray (while hair is nearly dry) so it’s slightly piecy and pull into a imperfect, textured French twist. Then add the headband!

Wearing a spectacular pale pink Dior Gown and a stunning hair look designed by master hair stylist Enzo Angileri, Charlize Theron's head-turning look was the epitome of modern, romantic glamour. "I wanted her hair to have a casual feeling, very soft, almost as if she had pulled it together herself," says Angileri. “I made the most of Charlize's natural waves, and created the style around her texture. The design itself is modern, asymmetrical, and just a little messy."

Theron wore a dramatic Cartier diamond headband and when you have such an important piece of jewelry, it can become too much, almost old-fashioned, if you have slick, over-styled hair, says Angileri. "I wanted to create an updo that combined a bohemian, romantic, and casual mood, but was strong enough for the red carpet.”

To create the look Angileri started with already dry, naturally waved hair, and curled small sections with a 2" curling iron to enhance volume and texture. Then he misted the sections with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray. After a few minutes, he completely brushed through her hair and swept the hair to left and made three sections.

"I pulled and rolled the first two sections into a loose bun and pinned them, working with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray throughout the process to control and hold the hair in place. I released and wrapped the last section under and around the bun and pinned it. Finally, I adjusted and freed strands in the bun so it looked even more unstructured, messy, and a bit wispy.” Then to complete the look, he placed the Cartier diamond headband into the style.

BUNS

Claire Danes’ chic modernly messy bun complemented her J. Mendel Dress, a frock with a neckline that was very geometric with hard lines requiring soft hair. To create this look, Peter Butler (Artists by Timothy Priano) for Wella Professionals blew out her hair with Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse and once the hair was completely dry, he curled her hair with a large barrel curling iron for extra volume. Then he pulled the hair back, wrapped the hair into a tight knot and secured this style with only two hair pins! Then, to give the style a soft sheen he sprayed Wella Professionals Stay Essential hair spray.

Shailene Woodley’s hair look, styled by Campbell McAuley for Wella Professionals, adorned a bun in her hair to complement her strapless dress. McAuley simply prepped the hair, then took a section from the crown to the ears and divided the hair to a front and back split section. At the back section, he pulled the hair back into a looser ponytail so there would still be some natural movement. Then, he sculpted the hair into a side parted wavy style with hands and moved the style into a beautifully twisted bun.

Last but not least, one of my favorite looks for the entire night was Angelina Jolie who looked ravishing in her white and red Atelier Versace dress. Jolie wore a bun as well, which I felt made her look not only classy but very sophisticated on the awards night.
