Laura Woerdehoff, an Aveda educator in Des Moines and freelance artist, was prepping her model for ARTIST SESSION and we couldn't help notice how eyes kept peeking over to focus on HOW she set the hair. "This is the perfect 'hard set'," she said as she was putting the finishing touches on her model. "With a wrap like this, you can pretty much do anything. I wrap on base for total control." The wrap involves a lot of technique, overdirection, elevation and attention. "You should have a pretty good idea about the finished look before wrapping," she says. "I knew I wanted to have a flat side, so that made the wrap fairly easy." Woerdehoff pointed out that she would have lifted the dropped side for a more standard set.

Here she offers 9 steps to create the set and a video on the HOW TO:

1. Pull out a one inch section and spray from roots to ends.

2. Comb through to remove any tangles.

3. Wrap from the base, wrapping down from a slightly elevated root.

4. Pin the curl in place.

5. Along the dropped side, hold the section down, wrap mid way and pin in to place.

6. Allow the set to "cool".

7. Clip side in place.

8. Spray the surface.

9. BLow dry to set.

The end result will appear in a summer issue of Modern Salon!
