Star Trek Sideburns by Gustav Mendoza

Maggie Mulhern | May 17, 2013 | 12:59 PM

Gustav Mendoza, in an homage to his father (who created the slanted side burn for the original STAR TREK television series), decided to re-create and modernize the shape for his Modern Salon Media shoot. For this session, Mendoza softened the slant and made it a bit more feminine.

"My father was a great wigmaster," says Mendoza. "He created the slant to try to distract from the the toupee William Shatner wore on the show. I always try to put a little something in my finishes to honor my father, and the gentle slanted sideburn here was perfect." (The "reveal" from this session will appear in's worth the wait!)

In this short video Gustav shows the sideburn and offers a shout out to father Richard Mendoza who passed away in 2005.
