The Betsey Johnson show is ALWAYS the best time...whether you are backstage or sitting in the audience. An invite to her spring/summer 2014 collection, presented this week during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, was the most coveted. Modern was there, both front and back of house, grabbing great interviews with the hair and nail leads, taping the rehearsal and then scoring a front row seat! The best 2 hours ever!

"You have to do something amazing for Betsey Johnson, because SHE is so amazing," says lead hairdresser Rodney Cutler. "It is just so creative and inspired and we all go the extra mile for her. It's every hairdressers dream to do this show!"

It's the dream for EVERYONE to attend a Betsey Johnson event, in any capacity. "This show IS the most fun," says Cutler. Betsey goes out of her way to make sure everyone is having a great time while prepping for the runway backstage. There is always a DJ blasting great music...and candy, cupcakes and champagne can be found everywhere. It's a party, and all in attendance are thrilled to participate...on any level. Even the security guards admit it their favorite show as well.

For the hair finish, Cutler purchased a bunch of pink wigs ("We wanted the hair to look like cotton candy...so of course we needed wigs," he says) and tied sections into knots to get varying textures. "We used lots of backcombing to get quirky shapes, and we can be experimental with wigs. We get to use our imagination and be creative." (Note the rehearsal video as Betsey gives her approval to Rodney for the hair.)

Also creative: the nails. Danielle Candido for Morgan Taylor, used three different colors and took inspiration from hair and make up. "Betsey loves her glitter," says Candido. "We used a cosmetic sponge to do a glitter fade on a pink base. It is such a fun finish."

Just before show time, Rodney summed up his feelings for his last show of MBFW. "It's been a great season," he says. "There has been great hair across the board." As far as ending with Betsey Johnson, he adds, "This is the perfect way to end fashion week."

For all of us.
