Glamour and strength strike the perfect balance in the Femme Fatale collection created by Dilek Onur-Taylor, artistic regional leader for jcp salons and Joico guest artist. The all-out texture with crimps, waves and curls was selected as a final entry in the 2013 North American Hairstyling Awards texture category.

Onur-Taylor’s special talent lies in creating sculpted styles and textured looks that support her creative vision. “Textured hair is easier to mold,” she says. “I can form it into any shape.” Her palette of soft peachy pink tones were chosen to enhance the femininity of the styles.

BLONDE MIXED MEDIA

“I treated this as two different styles,” says Onur-Taylor. “One is crimped and one is disheveled curls.”

Spray strands with Joico Smooth Curl Thermal Spray. Divide hair overall into tiny sections and crimp each section with an ultra-fine crimping tool. Soften the crimped texture with a paddle brush and use a 1 ½- inch curling iron to curl back and bottom sections. Work a small amount of Joico Matte Grip Texture Crème through strands to provide separation and a slightly roughened edge. Separate the crimped sections from the curled. Twist the crimps into a knot and pin them into place in the back of the head with two bobby pins. The creamy blonde color underscores the look.

PILLOW-Y BRUNETTE WAVES

Rough dry the hair until approximately 80 percent dry and work in a dollop of Joico JoiWhip Firm Hold Design Foam. Use a flat iron to curl narrow sections throughout the entire head. The flat iron produces a crisp edge to the wave shape.

“Then I teased all the under-sections like crazy with Joico JoiShape Shaping and Finishing Spray creating a cushion to support the smoother top sections,” says Onur-Taylor.

Roll and pin some of the hair’s length to create a shelf-like support. A chocolate-y glaze added richness to the brunette color.

PEACHY AND KEEN

The mid-length locks in this look take flight in a decidedly aerodynamic shape created by first applying Joico JoiLotion Sculpting Lotion to damp hair for hold and shine. Dry the hair and create small subsections. Curl each section, using a ¼ inch curling iron from the hairline to the crown. Switch to a 1-inch iron for the remainder of the hair. Twist each strand while curling. Lightly backcomb the cooled curls with fingers for a billowy effect. To create the unique, peach champagne hue, pre-lighten hair to pale blonde and add pea-sized drops of orange and bright pink direct dyes to a rich conditioner and apply from roots to ends.
