HOW TO: Pastel Pop Stars

Chandler Rollins | December 3, 2013 | 2:57 PM

At last Sunday’s American Music Awards, candy-colored strands set off long, stately gowns. Both Bonnie McKee and Ke$ha gave the red carpet an edge with pastel hair. Pravana’s Artist Vadre Grigsby Shares Insight on How to Get the Look.

HOW TO: Pastel Pop StarsBonnie McKee’s light yet vibrant copper color works especially well on her pale skin, and blue-gray eyes. Ke$ha rocked a split personality pastel that was a fierce as the extra high slit on her gown. We think the singer’s color would look great on just about any of your far-out and fabulous client's.

STEP 1: Apply ChromaSilk 7.44 from scalp through the first few inches of each strand, adjusting the length at which you apply the color as you move into the top section, adding more length.

STEP 2: Apply Pure Light Power Lightener with 30 volume developer to the remaining ends, lifting to a level 10.

STEP 3: Once, processing is complete, rinse, shampoo, condition, and dry completely.

STEP 4: Apply VIVIDS Orange over the 7.44.

STEP 5: Apply a mixture of equal parts VIVIDS Orange and PASTELS Too Cute Coral through the mid lengths.

STEP 6: Then apply a mixture of ½ oz of PASTELS Too Cute Coral with ¼ VIVIDS Clear and a drop of PASTELS Pretty in Pink through the ends.

STEP 7: Process for 20 minutes at room temperature. Then, rinse with cool water until the water runs clear, shampoo lightly with VIVIDS Color Protect Shampoo, Condition with VIVIDS Color Protect Conditioner, apply a light mist of VIVIDS Color Protect Sealing Spray, then style as desired.

HOW TO: Pastel Pop StarsKe$ha’s two-toned, delicate hair color adds an element of surprise with every turn. The Pastel Blue and Pastel Pink shades complement each other due to their matching cool, icey undertones. For Kesha’s look it is important to rinse and shampoo each side separately to maintain the separation of tones.
