Kicking off a new year doesn’t mean we can’t remember and honor the past. MODERN is thrilled when classics are updated, either in upgrades on appliances, fresh takes on sundries or improvements on formulations of existing color lines. We celebrate this ode to the past with this feature on the Clairol Professional Classic Collection, a new line inspired by Miss Clairol’s 16 most-popular permanent liquid shades.

Model Sanita came in with dark new growth leading to platinum and golden ends. “I wanted to make her icier,” Wright says. To get there, Wright chose to lift the base, keeping a darker, neutral root broken up with small skinny platinum highlights to the ends.
