From Robin Wright's no-nonsense power pixie in House of Cards to Icona Pop singer Aino Jawo's glossily smooth version, this sassy style has evolved from boyish dare to glamorous standard. The Euro-pixie popped at the Paris collections in October and delivers the same defiant note as it did when Vidal Sassoon gave Mia Farrow her quintessential crop during the filming of Rosemary's Baby in 1968. Once a risk, the pixie is now an assertive, au courant statement.
"There are five things to keep in mind when executing the new on-trend pixie cut," says Maureen McCarthy of A Maureen McCarthy Salon, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
- To keep it feminine, the razor is my tool of choice. Precision and soft edges are key.
- Weight and balance: Fringe needs to be customized to the correct length so as to accentuate facial features.
- The nape-length has to be chosen, and properly allow for any hairline challenges.
- A little product goes a long way; use a texture cream or a paste for separation.
