Studio Star

Choose Beauty: Nick ArrojoNick Arrojo is the owner of the wildly successful Arrojo Studio in Manhattan, but he's recognized on the streets of cities everywhere as the stylist on the television show "What Not to Wear."

Arrojo says his career in the beauty industry was shaped by a series of opportunities and guided by a trio of early loves.

"As a young creative fresh out of school, my three great passions were music, fashion and girls, but I needed a job. I thought about careers where I could be creative and involved in fashion, where I could listen to music all day, and meet and talk to attractive girls.

"The only career to offer this combination was hairdressing.

"Before I knew it, I had an apprenticeship at Vidal Sassoon. With Sassoon came my first chance to travel the globe working on shows and at seminars. This gave me a passion to teach, which has become a major part of my philosophy, to teach others the skills to become masters of their craft.

"I've worked on fashion shows, produced editorial work, cut the hair of celebrities, become a part of a successful television show and been recognized by fellow professionals. Now my dream is to build a trendsetting hairdressing brand.

"My career started from nothing and now the Arrojo Studio trade booth stands alongside Vidal Sassoon at beauty shows. To have this opportunity as an independent hairdresser is indicative of the opportunities the beauty business gives to us all."
