Experts on Spa Design

Arlene Tolin | July 10, 2011 | 6:18 PM

Thinking of a new look for the New Year? We asked leading experts to find out what stylists and technicians can expect in the way of design, comfort and ease. Offering their take on the subject: Rebecca Reed, marketing communications manager for European Touch; Jean O’Brien, marketing communications, Takara Belmont and Giampiero Stuani, president, Gamma & Bross, New York.

WHAT’S NEW?

Reed: We’ve just introduced Clean Touch Pipe-Free technology, the evolution of our current system. Lightweight components detach easily from the basin to provide quick, yet thorough cleaning. This updated technology makes it simpler for salons to clean their spa between clients.

WHAT’S NOW?

Reed: Platino and Murano pedicure spas. The ergonomic design elements of both models make our spas more comfortable and efficient for the pedicurist as well as for the client.

O’Brien: In the past, all Takara’s products were made to order. Now we stock these chairs, which are ready at any time to fly out the door to their new home.

Stuani: To use materials to manufacture organic shapes, like special foams and fiberglass. Decor is used to give a trendy touch.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Reed: Designing new products to meet the needs of our niche market. To be more environmentally friendly, our new Platino Spa basin requires only 4.5 gallons of water per service (some pedicure spas hold 8 gallons—almost twice as much).

O’Brien: Plans to expand the Beauty Mate line to include cabinetry and shampoo area furniture.

Stuani: Offer more services and sensations to customers and a consolidation of fashion in the salon environment. We are working to introduce a signature line by a top fashion designer, a collection for world-class salons and spas.
