NY Fashion Week: COOL HAIR
Odile for Redken with me backstage at the Carmen Marc Valvo show.

Another GREAT, GREAT New York Fashion Week just concluded this past Friday. This season I went to more than 40 of the Mercedes Benz shows, covering both front and back of house. Even though the models were freakishly thin and most of the fashions were sleek and smooth, all were balanced with big, fat, yummy hair. There were lots of MB's (messy buns); giant, full ponytails; long bouncy curls;  pulled and pushed hair and lots of height at the crown. There were pieces, HairUWear clip-ins and extensions of assorted colors and textures littering the backstage of most shows. It was a mess and it was fabulous. I got to "hang" with some heavyweights…Orlando Pita at Derek Lam and Odile at Carmen Marc Valvo among others.

Odile actually did a very interesting a-symmetrical high twisty knot above the right temple on each model. I said "wow...that looks like a 'cinnabon.'" She was horrified and corrected me by saying, "No, a brioche!" I don't think Odile spends too much time at the mall. One thing that I noticed at all the most important shows is the cool, calm and collected attitudes of the salon teams backstage. One would think that it would be crazy chaos, but it really isn't. All the biggies walk around as if they haven't a care in the world. AND THIS IS LIKE TWENTY MINUTES BEFORE SHOW TIME!!!!!!!  These are the real pros. They come prepared, on time and with tons of products, tools and equipment. No Drama…just good hair! We'll do some extended coverage of the silhouettes in an upcoming issue where we'll give you all the latest trends. Stay tuned….
