Mood Swing by Luis Alvarez of Aquage

Maggie Mulhern | July 10, 2011 | 9:47 PM

In this exclusive shoot for MODERN SALON, Luis Alvarez was inspired by his two favorite beauty events—the Academy Awards in Hollywood and America’s Beauty Show in Chicago.

Alvarez, who is a photographer as well as a hairdresser, has an eye for shapes, which he cultivated carefully on his red-hot models in this collection, titled “Mood Swing.”

“Most of the hair cuts I see on the streets fail to express their wearer’s personality,” he says. “The cuts have some form of round layering that neither enhances the facial features, nor reveals their character.”

Alvarez recommends cuts that are organically diffused, geometrically defined or a combination of both.
“A well-executed cut offers an internal structure that is geometrically defined and a perimeter shape that is organically diffused to delicately frame the face,” he says.
