Shear Genius: The Super Six

Faatemah Ampey | July 10, 2011 | 9:48 PM
And then there were six ...

This week's episode of Shear Genius 3 was not the most exciting for me. The highlight for me was the sexy accent of guest judge Moulay Yacboui.

For the shortcut challenge contestants were asked to dry cut curly hair into a graduated bob. Not so scary until they were told the clients would be washed and dried straight and no additional cutting could be done. Yikes! Some stylists rose to the occasion while others should have been sent directly back to beauty school. No surprise that Janine and Matthew were at the top of their game while April and Brig were at the bottom on this one. Again no surprise.

April and Brig chose to attack their clients with clippers instead of opting for the precision a bob requires. And worse, April said if a client came to her salon wanting a bob she would tell the client to "go to Vidal Sassoon." I was offended by that statement. A bob is a classic shape that EVERY hair stylist should be able to perform.

The elimination challenge was to transform army wives into '40s pin ups for the husbands who were away. Brian is thanking his lucky stars for whoever created the word "immunity." He did not fair so well on this challenge. Brig was deemed Shear Genius of the challenge with a questionable interpretation of 1940s hair. I do have to give Brig props on an amazing color transformation with her client. Matthew had an amazing style that made me drool (and it screamed '40s!). Mad props to Matthew for nailing a hard challenge. Janine did not fair so well with this challenge. Time and poor model choice were her enemy. Amy's style was not period appropriate and undone.

Amy says farewell, finally ...

Random observations:

1.) Is Jon getting hotter by the minute? Love his tattoos, raspy voice and in-your-face attitude.
2.) Does Kim Vo look like Ken doll?
3.) Hey Brig, Big Bird called and said he wants his color back.

Peace and hair grease,
