Shortcut challenge: Style Camilla

As a brown girl, I can say we are very particular about our hair and especially our  curly edges! Camilla proves to be the toughest client yet throughout his competition. With only 45 minutes on the clock, contestants are to style her hair for a red-carpet event. Camilla's texture not only makes this difficult but her constant interrogation of the stylists seem to make them nervous. Jon burns her, Brig gives her a style suited for an adolescent and Matthew and Janine nail it. Matthew wins this challenge.

Elimination challenge: Defining your signature style. Guest judge Oribe!

Matthew's style: "Organically natural."  Oribe thought Matthew's looks were "sexy and very editorial."

Janine's Japanese and internationally inspired style is not cohesive to the judges.

Jon's "Rock & Roll beautiful" felt "average" to Camilla.

Brig's "unwearable street hair" worked for the judges. Brigg wins this challenge with hair that is just as random as she is! She defined her style and the judges felt the images represented Brig.

Jon is sent packing with his head held high. I will miss his energy and happy to be here attitude. Jon you still ROCK in my book.
Shear Genius Scoop: Rockin' and Rollin'
Jon and I rockin' out!

Brand identity is something that is very important to me. Whenever I create a collection of work it has to speak for me as an artist.  The perfect example is the my award winning collection shoot for NAHA last year. I am always looking at the past to reinvent the future. My signature style? Urban/Couture, over-the-top hair that still has a street sensibility.

Working behind the chair has inspired me to be a better editorial hair stylist. It is important to me that the looks I create be over-the-top beautiful and approachable. There are designers that design clothes that real women can't wear. What is the point? I understand being provocative and wanting to inspire but it still must be consumer friendly.

Stylist, I leave you with these words ...whatever your style is define it, own it and do you! My favorite quote: "It is better to be a first-rate version of you than a second-rate version of someone else".

Now we are left with the final three, Brig, Janine and Matthew. Who will be the next Shear Genius?!  Next week is the final episode. I promise it will be exciting, shocking and dramatic.  Don't miss it!!!!
