Some major trends at the Globes included French twists, bangin' bangs and ponytails-but even among these gorgeous do's there were some definite don'ts. Natalie Portman got a thumbs up for her glam twist, but Carrie Underwood's strayed into prom hair territory and the don't column. Here's a look at the winners and losers.

Do:

Wear a glam ponytail.
Kyra Sedgwick showed off the perfect way to wear the red carpet ponytail–swept back, low and simple with face-framing chunks

Don't:

Dress your double ponytail with shiny accessories.
J.Lo went a little overdone with a double ponytail, plus shiny accessory to hold back the top pony, when simple would have worked.

Do:

A clean, cute crop.
While her dress may have been an object of criticism, no one could critique Michelle Williams' sweet blonde crop.

Don't:

Overtexturize your overgrown crop.
Annette Bening and Al Pacino, we're looking at you. The two stars looked surprisingly similar with short hair that went to new, messy heights-and not in a good way.

Do:

Rock a classic, classy French twist.
Co-stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis both wore great French twists. Natalie's was a classic, straight, smooth twist, while Mila's was loose and slightly wavy.

Don't:

Overdo it with tendrils and too much poof.
Carrie Underwood went astray with her twist with too much height on top, tendrils, and a sharp line of demarcation between her side-swept bangs and the twist.

Do:

Sweep hair into a low, loose bun.
Emma Stone and Claire Danes wore loose buns that complemented the clean lines of their dresses. Emma's had lots of texture and Claire wore hers straight and at the nape of the neck.

Don't:

Wear a bun as big as your head.
Jennifer Love Hewitt also sported a bun, but while most stayed on the simple side with their hair, she went BIG-and too overdone for a dress that had a lot going on.

Do:

Revisit the 50s with a lush, pretty down-do.
January Jones blonde locks were a striking complement to her stunning red dress. While the dress was sexy, her hair was sweet, pretty and reminiscent of a 50s pin-up.

(Maybe) Don't:

Revisit the 60s with heavy bangs and roughened straight locks.
Sandra Bullocks' hair generated the most debate on Modern's Facebook page, with equal numbers that either loved it and hated it. Most who didn't like it said they would have if the bangs were trimmed a little shorter and her long locks more polished.
