McKinley High isn't typically a hotbed of beauty and fashion, so it's refreshing to see our favorite young actresses with hair, makeup and gowns worthy of their rising-star status. We think they clean up pretty well, but are they glam enough? We asked Alex Ioannou, owner and hairstylist at Trio Salon in Chicago, for his take on their red-carpet style.

The Girls from "Glee" Go Glam!

Glee club diehard Rachel (played by Lea Michele) shirks her dowdy high-school classroom look for high-class drama with smoky eyes and plenty of sequins. "I like it," says Ioannou. "It's a very simple look with a classic ponytail. When hair is pulled back it can look harsh, but it works on her. Nice eyebrows, too."

The Girls from "Glee" Go Glam!

Cheerleader Quinn (played by Dianna Agron) has been through some ups and downs, but her face-framing wisps, rosy makeup and deep violet dress is top-notch. Ioannou comments, "I like the cut. With the color on her, it's nice and soft. This is the kind of thing clients come in asking for. I love the bang, how it's longer and pushed over to one side."

The Girls from "Glee" Go Glam!

Shy Tina (played by Jenna Ushkowitz) busts out of her shell with her sleek hair, statement earrings and bold red lips. "This is long, one length hair," says Ioannou. "There's nothing creative or ‘wow-y' here. For hairdressers, this is a client look."

The Girls from "Glee" Go Glam!

Troublemaker Santana (played by Naya Rivera) breaks the rules with her long hair pinned under for a faux bob and an avant-garde frock. "I don't like this picture," says Ioannou. "Maybe it would be okay from a different angle, but here it just looks frumpy. She's such a pretty girl, but her hair looks like a bell!"

The Girls from "Glee" Go Glam!

Diva Mercedes (played by Amber Riley) plays up the limelight with shiny waves, shimmering makeup and plenty of jewels. "This is reminiscent of Farrah Fawcett," says Ioannou. "I don't like the angle and the sides. It's just not working for me. It's too ‘done.'"

The Girls from "Glee" Go Glam!

Though OCD guidance counselor Emma (played by Jayma Mays) competes with Terri (played by Jessalyn Gilsig), the ex-wife of glee club coach Will, for his affections, the women's looks are in harmony here with neutral makeup, simple jewelry and pretty dresses. But they might be too basic, says Ioannou. "I like the side pony, but this hair doesn't look like a hairdresser did it. There is not a lot of creativity here-it could be much more glamorous."
