Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE), Long Beach, California
Details and highlights: More than 40,000 attendees walked the floor
to learn the latest trends, techniques, products, tools and services for the
salon and spa professional. Top trends included: coloring and smoothing services,
clipper trends, argan oil, accessories and accent pieces.
Education: The three-day event offered more than 250 educational opportunities
to up your skills in classes offering specific and advanced education.
The North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) class featured NAHA
winners offering participants the tips on how to win a NAHA. Business-building
classes focused on how to market and grow business. The ISSE Long
Beach Latino Fashion Theater offered a venue for new cut and color trends
for the Latino market. The EstheticsAmerica & Wellness Pavilion devoted to
skin care, cosmetics, health and wellness products, services and education
offered the latest information, products and services. Continuing Education
credits were also available to massage and wellness professionals along with
advanced training from Cidesco USA.
Celeb sightings: Industry celebrities Kim Vo, Nick Arrojo, Brig Van Osten
to name a few were in attendance. Top film stylists Sacha Quarles and Pierce
Austin were found checking out the Malibu MakeOver Crystal Gel Normalizer,
while John Simpson, Damien Carney and Charlie Price taught the latest in cut,
color and design. Tabatha Coffey stopped by to sign copies of her new book It's
Not Really About The Hair. Sherri Jessee taught a class and did make-up on
Nancy O'Dell, Rusk spokesperson and Entertainment Tonight host, who was
there to cover the show.
Crowd pleaser: There was a frenzy at the OPI booth when-on day
one-they ran out of "Shatter," the crackly black lacquer made famous by
Katy Perry. Thousands of bottles were delivered the next day, and sold out
again by the afternoon!
