We love Olivia Munn’s recent flirty bob, the latest in a lineup of memorable Hollywood bobs. This versatile cut, which can go sweet, modern or edgy, has shone on many stars. The key to this classic, says celeb stylist David Babaii, is that it can be customized to any individual with its many cut and styling options. Here are a few things to keep in mind!

When starting a bob, the foundation is critical, says Babaii. “The most important factor is your design line,” he says. “In creating a great bob we have options from a solid bob line to an A-line bob. Once that foundation is put in place, the rest is up to the clients’ hair type, texture, length and face shape. It is a classic cut, but has so many options to fit almost any client.”

In particular, he adds, “You can select from various angles, lengths, graduation and texturizing. Let’s not forget various color techniques that can also change the look of a bob.”

To style, get creative: “All bobs do not have to be blown out straight,” explains Babaii. “They can be rough dried to create some volume and texture, or loosely curled to give a more Bohemian look. Accessories such as clips, headbands or scarves can also change it up from a conventional style.”

One particularly classic bob? “Marilyn Monroe,” he says. “Her bob was the perfect example of using layers to create volume.” For more celebrity bob looks over the past few years, see our slideshow below!
