Stylist Wins a Spot on Sexy Hair Team at NYFW

Anne Moratto | September 25, 2012 | 10:04 AM

Mabemis Morales was living the dream—the “American Dream”-- when she joined the Sexy Hair team in New York to style Indashio’s runway show during New York Fashion Week.  Morales secured the spot on the team by winning the “Sexy Hair My Sexy Style” photo contest, receiving more than 1,200 online votes for her entry.

“I heard about the contest via an email update from Sexy Hair and entered because it was my chance to live my dream of going to [NYFW] and style the model’s hair right before they hit the runway,” said Morales. “I entered, shared the link with everyone on my Facebook and Instagram and those who know me know I’ve always wanted to go so they voted and passed it on. Once I got word I won, I had to reread the email three times to believe it.”

The theme for the show was The American Dream and Indashio’s collection was built around a red, white and blue color scheme.  Sexy Hair complemented the pieces with couture styling—lots of volume, texture and temporary color.

Looking back, Morales expected people to be running around backstage with “combs, hairsprays in their hands running after models trying to get everything perfect for the show with excitement in the air and models looking amazing.” She learned that it takes much longer than she anticipated getting everything ready but if given a chance to do it again she would take it in a heartbeat.

Professionally, Morales is looking forward to what the future holds. “I hope to be a part of more events like these in the future and hopefully one day work for Sexy Hair because they have an awesome team and I would love the be a part of it one day.”
