Celebrity make up artist David Maderich has watched countless fellow make up artists select the wrong shade of foundation for their clients. "The results can be seen everywhere," he says. "You can see a horrible line of demarkation in photos or on the red carpet....it can really disrupt the beauty of the client."

David points out that instead of matching the shade to the face, make up artists should pick a shade that best matches the neck. "This can get a bit tricky when the client has been using self tanner on the face, but unless your client is wearing a turtleneck to her wedding, it's easier to match the face to the rest the of the body."

In this video, David, using Bella Pierre Cosmetics, demos how he chooses the perfect shade and shares why he prefers powder foundation for model Marta.
