Kid Color: The Compromise

Maggie Mulhern | October 16, 2014 | 9:00 PM

Jillian LeDonne (@therealjillybean), a colorist at the Eva Scrivo Salon in NYC, has the most interesting client. 10 year old Eden says “Do whatever you want,” but her NOT 10 year old father says “Just keep it off the scalp.” The compromise has been an ever changing, ombre for the past 2 years. (Does Eden sound like a future professional?).

The most recent neon lime is LeDonne’s favorite “so far.”

Here she offers the HOW TO:

Step 1: Pre-lighten below the occipital using a balayage technique with L’Oreal Professionnel Platinium with 40 volume developer.

Step 2: Process under heat for approximately 30 – 40 minutes, lifting to level 10.

Step 3: Shampoo, condition and dry.

Step 4: Apply to the pre-lightened area: Pravana Vivids Neon Yellow and Neon Green (equal parts).

Step 5: Process with low heat for 30 minutes. Rinse until the water runs clear and then light shampoo and condition.

TIPS TO SHARE WITH THE CLIENT TO MAINTAINING COLOR:

-Do not shampoo for 48 hours.

-Use cool water for both shampoo and rinsing.

-Use a professional, color safe shampoo.

MAKEOVER: Three Sessions Of Beauty

Jenn Malone (@jmalonehair) at Agence Salon, San Dimas, California, says her client "had 85% virgin hair. Her goal is to be a 'rooty' platinum blonde while still keeping the 'lived in' look. My main goal was to get her to her desired color, while still maintaining the integrity of her hair. Patience is the key in achieving this!" How to here.
