Sara Salazar (@saratweezerhands), an executive stylist and one of the salon managers at J. Scordato Salon in Tucson, Arizona, was thrilled to add some fun colors on the tips for new client, Cynthia. MODERN found this finish on Instagram and asked Salazar for the formula and technique. Here she shares the details:

Step 1: Pre-lighten the ends, using a balayage technique, with Paul Mitchell Synchrolift blended with 35 volume developer. Process for 30 minutes and then shampoo and condition the hair.

Step 2: Go in again (using balayage) and apply Paul Mitchell Sunchrolift, this time blended with 20 volume developer. Process for 20 minutes and then shampoo and condition the hair.

Step 3: Prepare two separate formulas using Paul Mitchell's Inkworks. The darker, more vibrant color was one part purple to one part blue. The lighter more icy color was one part clear, to half purple, and half blue. Apply each formula to dry hair by hand painting the color where desired. "I used the darker formula on parts of the hair that still had lots of yellow so I could get complete saturation. I used the lighter formula on pieces of the hair that were almost completely white, so I could achieve the melting of colors effect."

Step 4: Process under heat for 25 minutes.

Step 5:  Rinse with cool/room temperature water for five minutes and then condition with Paul Mitchell Ultimate Color Repair.
