The inspiration for this collection was derived from a single moment. It was late April, when the Chicago winter gray was lingering but finally showing signs of spring life. Stylist Timmy Willy, a recent Matrix Spread the Love ambassador, saw a woman walking into Starbucks on Chicago’s Rush and Oak streets who stopped him in his tracks. “She was absolutely stunning,” Willy says. “It was obvious that she not only looked great, but she felt great. It was as though she walked off the set of a 1950s film, yet she seemed totally contemporary.”

The woman was perched under a clear dome umbrella and wore an A-line yellow dress, winged eyeliner, red accessories and sported a level-10 bouffant. “Her personality radiated with the warmth of yellow,” Willy says.

He followed her into the coffee shop and started jotting down ideas: beautiful blonde, monochromatic yellow with hints of red, summer ’50s fashion but contemporary, color blocking. “She showed an undeniable statement of radiant energy saturated with cheer that demands an end to the restlessness and boredom winter brings,” Willy says.
