Sadie Gray (@sadiejcre8s) said something hit her seven or eight months ago. "Oh my goodness," she says, "I am not just coloring hair I am painting on a canvas that just happens to be moving constantly! It was right then and there that I got super beyond excited about the work and which was no longer work for me at that point as it was now artwork and my release every single day!"

The artist, based at Deja Vu Salon, Santa Rosa, California, posted this gorgeous mermaid finish on Instagram and we had to know more. Here she shares the HOW TO in her own words:

Her natural base level is a neutral level five as I retouched her roots with Scruples 5N and 10 volume. I balayaged her using small sections with Schwarzkopf Blondme and 20 volume and using a diagonal angle in the sections.  I started in the front and by the time I got to the back used 30 volume so she would have even processing. After that she processed for another total 30 minutes I rinsed her telling her with Redken Shades EQ 1 ounce of 9B half ounce of 9V equal parts processing solution.  I then dried her hair and used a mixture of one tube of pastel blue from Pravana one tube of neon blue also from Pravana and a dot of cobalt blue from Joico. And half a tube of peacock green also from Joico. I balayaged in tiny diagonal sections using embee Meche to separate the sections. After every two sections I left out a section of blonde so as to create brighter dimension. She processed for 20 minutes without heat. I rinsed her with cool water and conditioned her.
