This client has natural level 2 Asian hair and came in with a few inches of regrowth and blue direct dye. She loved the blue but wanted something more subtle. Stylist James Miju (@dearmiju) responded with this ethereal silver-blue.

When transitioning from intense to more subtle color, Miju recommends having the client use clarifying shampoo at home or wait until hair has faded before attempting the transformation.

Here Miju shares the formula and steps he used to create this color.

Lightener Formula: Goldwellsilk Lift strong 10 vol + Olaplex and Goldwell SilkLift strong 30 vol + olaplex

Color Remover: Malibu DDL

Blue Formula:  Fanola Silver Toner + 8.11 + Blue Corrector + 3.5 vol

Silver Formula: Fanola Silver Toner + 3.5 vol

HOW-TO

1. Start by prelightening the hair in tiny foils using Goldwell Silk Lift 10 vol+ Olaplex from the scalp to about half an inch down. Use Goldwell Silk Lift 30 vol + Olaplex on regrowth to demarcation and use Goldwell Silk Lift 10 vol + olaplex on any blonde strands that are bluish/greenish but not translucent. Cover with plastic and process for one hour.

2. Rinse hair and towel dry and use Malibu DDL with 10 vol + Olaplex to remove residual semi-permanent color. Rinse and towel dry.

3. Apply Silver Formula on mids and ends at the shampoo bowl before having the client sit up for the shadow formula.

4. Apply Blue Formula on scalp and a few inches down. Balayage the Blue Formula on top of the Silver to blend the colors together.

5. Rinse after 10-20 min of processing or until the root color is slightly darker than mids and ends.

6. Follow with Olaplex Step 2 for 30 mins. Shampoo with a violet shampoo, condition and style.
