Tip number eight on my list of the things you can do RIGHT NOW to be a better haircutter is to take clients shorter. There are many reasons why professional haircutters like to take clients shorter.  Short haircuts come back faster.  Short haircuts take less time in the chair. Short haircuts are easier to cut and style.  Short haircuts buy and use more hair care product. Short haircuts purchase chemical services like color more often. Short haircuts send more referrals.  I also promote the fact that cutting short will make you a batter haircutter immediately.

Taking clients shorter requires a plan (see tip #2). Having a plan requires though and understanding.  Your willingness to work shorter will demand that your skills rise to meet your plan.  Focusing on shorter work will bring clients in more frequently.  Higher frequency means more haircuts over a shorter period of time which breeds growth.  Cutting the same client more often also creates familiarity and repetition.  Mastery of this client and their specific haircut requires cutting that client a number of times.  Get to that number faster by cutting them shorter.

I have long been outspoken on the notion that all haircutters will be better haircutters after 1,000 haircuts.  You just need to get to haircut number 1,000 sooner.  Short haircuts and high frequency client visits will get you to your 1,000th haircut in a hurry.  There are many ways to cut more hair, sooner.  Taking clients shorter is just one of the ways to get better at haircutting immediately.

Happy haircutting
