"This long time client of mine is always ready for a change," says Heather Yacenda (@heatheryacendahair), Studio H Salon, Wichita, KS. "We had been lightening her level-3, color-treated hair for almost a year. After we achieved a blonde, it was too much upkeep on her roots, coming in every four weeks. We decided on an ashy balayage so it would fade beautifully in between appointments and added a darker root shade so she could go eight weeks in between salon visits."

How-to: Rooty ash-blonde

STEP 1: To the brassy ends apply Paul Mitchell Synchro Lift with 20 volume. Process for 35 minutes. Shampoo and dry the hair.

STEP 2: Apply Paul Mitchell 4NN 10 volume on the roots and let that process for the full 35+ minutes.

STEP 3: Balayage through the mid shaft and ends with 10A & UTA Paul Mitchell color XG with 10 volume. Process 20 minutes and rinse.
