MODERN challenged Mustafa Avci to create a special-occasion updo perfect for a formal wedding.

Ask any Instagrammer who follows pro beauty pages, the king of Hollywood glam is Mustafa Avci, @hairsalonm and @mustafasworkshop. Best known for his “Hollywood Waves,” that he now teaches in workshops across the country, Avci credits a regram from @modernsalon for propelling him into the spotlight and giving him the opportunity to boost his industry presence.

MODERN challenged Avci with creating a special-occasion look fit for a bride or bridesmaid, and he delivered.

“When I created this look, I was inspired by the Hollywood glamour of the past,” Avci says. “Starlets like Joan Bennett, Debra Paget, Gene Tierney and Vivien Leigh used to wear waves combined with simple updos. They were clean and sleek, with just the right amount of wave.”

How To Winterize a Summer Blonde: Babylights with Reverse Balayage using Redken pH Bonder

Alison Alhamed and Jamie Newman | November 29, 2016

Our summer blonde made the perfect model to demonstrate the beauty of Redken’s new pH Bonder because although she isn’t frequently coloring her hair, living in New York City means she’s walking outside a lot with exposure to the sun and city elements—plus thermal damage from regular use of a curling wand or flatiron. So with protection and hair health being the two key benefits of the additive, she was all in.

The hair was cut (12 inches) and donated to Wigs For Kids. After some layering, face framing and texturizing, Julian got busy with color. Formula here.
