When MODERN posted this photo on our Instagram and Facebook pages, we got LOTS of love (more than 16,000 likes on Instagram in less than three days, and more than 12,000 likes on Facebook in 2 days!)

We reached out to color and style specialist Ashlen K. Duke (@smashlen) of Moore Hair Design, Salt Lake City, Utah, for more details.

"My client had a dark red color on her long hair for many years, so I knew it wouldn't be a quick fix to get her to platinum," Duke says. "The entire process happened over three weeks to gradually lighten the hair safely and keep her length."

Here she shares the HOW-TO:

First week: Lighten with Paul Mitchell SyncroLift bleach and 20 volume two times.

Second week: Lighten with Olaplex and bleach with 30 volume two times then tone with Redken Shades EQ 9B.

Third week: Lighten with Olaplex and bleach with 30 volume one more time then colored all over with Affinage Infinity High Lift 12.2 with 20 volume.
