Game Changers 2016: Stylist Gabie Vossler's Steady Stream of Good Work

Anne Moratto | July 27, 2016 | 2:01 PM

What do we love about Gabie Vossler? She has created a space for herself on modernsalon.com by consistently posting her work and commenting positively on that of other professionals. And editors have taken notice. When MODERN SALON shared Gabie’s “Lighting Matters” post on Facebook, it received 4.4 thousand “likes,” and was seen by half a million.

Name: Gabie Vossler

City/State: Honolulu, Hawaii

Salon: Ho'ala Salon and Spa

Follow me on: Instagram @gabievossler and on Youtube at hairbygabievossler

Followers: 1565 on Instagram

Best known for: Blonding, updos

Beauty school: Golden West Cosmetology

Most viral post: I posted a side-by-side picture of a balayage guest I just worked on in two different areas of lighting. One was in warm lighting, one was in natural lighting. Such a difference!

Favorite apps for social and why: I just discovered the PicsArt app and it has everything I need in one. I can customize the watermark by bending it around the hair or make it a straight line, I can crop the picture into a shape. There is just so much you can do with this app.

Best tip for getting the best results on a post: Finding the natural light helps with the quality so much. I don't like to go directly in the sun, though. I move my guests around a few times to find the right light and they even get excited about helping me along the way.

Favorite hashtags to explore: #blondecolorist #loveyourcolor #bridalupdo and, obviously, #modernsalon

Who she is following: I am a longtime fan of Kim Vō for his blonding work. I also love seeing the work of @christoph_do , @hairandmakeupbysteph and @hairbykathynunez

Passion other than beauty: Living in Hawaii, I am exposed to some amazing hikes, beaches and restaurants and like to take advantage of those things with my husband.

How social media changed his/her life: Social media has opened so many doors for me. I am constantly entering hair-related contests. Any time I win one of those it has been such great exposure and very humbling. My in-salon clientele improved because clients see my work on social media and come to me for my style. Including awards and achievements in my bio description also shows dedication and drive for doing hair, and clients like seeing that.

The professional products she can’t live without: I am obsessed with the new Aveda Invati Thickening Intensive Conditioner. I would have my home smell like that scent if I could! The hair is silky and smooth after using it.

Shout out to someone who helped her along the way: My husband, John, gets a lot of credit for his constant support in everything I do in this industry.

Would love to makeover: Blake Lively's hair would be a dream to style!

How To Winterize a Summer Blonde: Babylights with Reverse Balayage using Redken pH Bonder

Alison Alhamed and Jamie Newman | November 29, 2016

Our summer blonde made the perfect model to demonstrate the beauty of Redken’s new pH Bonder because although she isn’t frequently coloring her hair, living in New York City means she’s walking outside a lot with exposure to the sun and city elements—plus thermal damage from regular use of a curling wand or flatiron. So with protection and hair health being the two key benefits of the additive, she was all in.
