Bellus Academy Introduces Barbering/Cosmetology Dual Licensure Program

Anne Moratto | August 12, 2016 | 9:08 AM

Responding to robust demand for men’s grooming professionals, Bellus Academy is introducing a 1,800-hour dual licensure program for barbering and cosmetology.   The inaugural class will began in late August.

The practical program takes a hybrid approach to hair, making it convenient for licensed hairstylists and barbers to expand their professional service offerings.  Bellus Academy owner and President Lynelle Lynch said the program addresses key trends in the industry. “The male grooming industry continues to grow exponentially and this program makes it easy for cosmetologists and barbers to build their businesses by offering cross-over services. With dual-licensure, a graduate can work in a salon, spa, barbering salon or other beauty and wellness business that serves both male and female clientele,” she stated.

In 2015, Bellus Academy partnered with salon owner and educator DJ Muldoon to launch a signature Homme line of barbering cuts. Response to the barbering program and the signature line of cuts was robust, particularly among cosmetologists. In fact, the first eight students to enroll in the Bellus barbering program were licensed cosmetologists.

Through the dual licensure program, licensed cosmetologists can complete the barbering module with a 200-hour program and licensed barbers can complete the cosmetology module with a 300-hour program. More information on dual licensure is available at www.bellusacademy.edu.  “Licensed hairstylists who completed the barbering program have remarked repeatedly that the barbering program has helped them both grow and diversify their clientele. We created the dual-licensure program to make it easy for licensed and aspiring hairstylists and barbers to earn dual licensure,” said Emanuel San Martin, barbering director at Bellus Academy.

How To Winterize a Summer Blonde: Babylights with Reverse Balayage using Redken pH Bonder

Alison Alhamed and Jamie Newman | November 29, 2016

Our summer blonde made the perfect model to demonstrate the beauty of Redken’s new pH Bonder because although she isn’t frequently coloring her hair, living in New York City means she’s walking outside a lot with exposure to the sun and city elements—plus thermal damage from regular use of a curling wand or flatiron. So with protection and hair health being the two key benefits of the additive, she was all in.
