If there was a modern-day version of the 1985 classic The Breakfast Club, the Band of Outsiders Spring/Summer 2017 line would be a perfect representation of its aesthetic.

Inspired by the classic misfit, the designers’ comeback collection features statement pieces like letterman jackets and oversized knits that run the gamut of high school personalities.

Oribe educator and lead stylist Joey George used this personality-driven theme and took inspiration from a series of portraits by photographer Wolfgang Tillmans to create girl-on-the-go looks with products that encourage the hair’s natural texture.

Also, check out the video where George, MODERN's January cover artist, gives us a backstage report and tells us more about how he is helping to develop new Oribe products.

Longer Hair:

  1. Begin by wetting the hair with Foundation Mist, then apply Matte Waves Texture Lotion to encourage the hair’s natural wave.
  2. Rough dry the hair using hands—no brushes—so the hair doesn’t become too fluffy.
  3. Clean up the parting so it’s a bit off-center and not too perfect.
  4. Divide the hair into four sections and loosely braid each section. Then, flatiron each braid.
  5. Once the hair cools, break up the braids using your fingers and apply AirStyle Flexible Finish Cream from mid-lengths to ends for piecey, lived-in definition.

Shorter Hair and Male Models:

  1. Begin by wetting the hair with Foundation Mist, then apply Matte Waves Texture Lotion to encourage the hair’s natural wave.
  2. Rough dry the hair using hands—no brushes—so the hair doesn’t become too fluffy.
  3. Once dry, spray hair with Gold Lust Dry Shampoo for an airy, dry texture.

Natural Hair:

  1. Embrace the natural texture by applying Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray for control.
  2. Finish with AirStyle Flexible Finish Cream.
