From box brunette to beautiful blonde, “This has been our journey over the last five months,” Kalen Keele, says. Keele, (@colorbykalen), a salon owner and balayage specialist in Lehi, UT,  shares the slow and steady work she took to achieve her client’s dream hair while maintaining its integrity.

STARTING POINT: “She started off with a level 2 box-dyed brunette, an inch of level 7 virgin regrowth, three inches of level 5 colored hair and the rest of her hair was a level 9. Her goal is an allover white blonde."

THE PROCESS

STEP ONE: Bleached out the three inches of level 5 color with Joico Verolights and 40 volume with Olaplex and let that process until it was the same color as her ends.

STEP TWO: Went through and did 20 volume and Olaplex and Verolights on her roots and then dragged that same lightener through her ends for the last ten minutes.

STEP THREE: At the bowl, toned her roots with Redken 7NA on her roots, 6T on the midshafts (where the previous level 5 color was) and 9N on the ends.

STEP FOUR: Rinsed and did an allover glaze of 9T 9NA to even everything out.

FINISH: Finished off with an Olaplex treatment.

“A little patience and Olaplex is all you need! And voila!”
