Take the October Healthy Hairdresser Challenge: Take Care of You!

Rosanne Ullman | October 3, 2016 | 1:50 AM

Look around the salon and you’ll likely see at least a few shades of pink. Salon professionals helped pioneer and still actively support campaigns to raise funds and awareness about the importance of breast cancer research and early detection. But are you taking the message seriously and heeding it yourself?

October's Healthy Hairdresser Challenge is sponsored by breast cancer survivor Ouidad and her eponymous “curl experts” hair care line.  Salon pros can accept the challenge by going to between October 1-31 and pledging that they have either:

  • Performed a breast cancer self-exam
  • Completed or scheduled a mammogram
  • Completed or scheduled another type of health screening appointment

Tips on preventing breast cancer are available at

Ten lucky participants will win a full-size product from Ouidad’s 2016 “Curls for the Cure Foundation” campaign, the Superfruit Renewal Clarifying Cream Shampoo (retail value $26; $2 of each sale donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation). Also, one grand-prize winner will earn a free Ouidad two-day certification training (education value $900; travel and accommodations not included).
