World of Color

Known for his visible and noted color fi nishes (Kim Kardashian, among others) Matrix celebrity hair stylist George Papanikolas is also a talented cutter and stylist.

In our initial discussions, MODERN thought we would do a classic Hollywood blonde, but Papanikolas said “I really prefer calling it a ‘beach-y blonde.’ It better describes what I do.”

We were intrigued to learn more about Papanikolas and his impact around the world. Not only does he create beautiful color designs at his base in Beverly Hills at the Andy LeCompte Salon or in New York City at the Rita Hazan Salon, he also offers his magic to a long list of clients in Dubai where he is a regular guest artist for the Belle Femme salon. “I love being able to do hair around the world,” he says. “When it comes to beautiful hair, there is no language barrier.” (Check out MODERN’s interview with Papnikolas about his Dubai experience. Visit, search “Dubai.”)

Behind the Cover: April 2014Back on U.S. soil in the Water Street Studio in lower Manhattan, Papanikolas chose a model who needed some oooomph in her color and could benefit from the new Matrix Biolage hair care line which he used to both finish and enhance his modern design.

“Finishing products are key to enhancing the color and protecting any look,” he says. “I am using the new Matrix Biolage because I appreciate the BioMatch Technology that combines science and nature to maintain my color results while offering a beautiful fi nish.” And that fi nish is beautiful, in any language.
