The corkscrew curls on page 68 of MODERN's May issue were a true labor of love for Detra Smith, Hot Tools Artistic Director and Matrix Artistic Educator. Smith arrived to her ARTIST SESSION photo shoot with a suitcase filled with pre-colored wefts, but ended up using the blue alone because it worked better with the fashion.
Inspired by different forms of energy, Smith placed curls, "wigglies" and zig zags below the rounds of the head, incorporating both the wefts and natural hair. Watch this short video and get an overview of the finish and close up of the curls.
