On the second day of MODERN SALON Media’s first-ever Hair+ Summit, Sheila Wilson, owner of Master Design Salon and Wellness Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, and Intercoiffure vice president, took to the stage to kick off day two of the event.

Wilson's presentation, called “The Four Cs For Clients with Thinning Hair,” covered how to consult with a client who has thinning or hair-loss problems. For extra measure, she added a fifth C during her session.

Consultation:

During the consultation, take time to learn your client’s history, hair strength, scalp buildup, daily hair routine, realistic goal and the time that is going to be involved to achieve their hair goals.

Condition:

Nourish the client’s hair, stimulate their scalp, teach them the proper procedure while using the right products for them.

Cut:

Here is where you provide damage control; give them the right cut for their situation.

Color:

Be honest enough with them to say “not now,” but if it is the right time, be sure to use the correct type of color.

Check-up:

“Use hope in lieu of fear when talking to your client,” Wilson said.
