On the first Monday after Thanksgiving, the fifth location of Zazu Salon opened its doors to passerby on Walton Street in downtown Chicago. Nestled right off of Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile, the location is one that’s hard to miss, with an over-sized chandelier hanging high in the salon’s windows.

Modern Salon had the privilege to interview Michael and Anthony Segretto—brother duo who are both managing the salon. “It’s a big moment because Dec. 1st the same day my parents. and owners of Zazu Salons, Susan and Salvatore Segretto, opened our first location. 37 years later, we’re here, with our fifth location.” said Michael Segretto in an interview with MODERN SALON.

The Walton location is the latest branding of Zazu, and it was stirred by a trip the Segretto family took to Milan, Italy, in 2015. Inspired by the city’s retail stories, fashion and timelessness, the family borrowed some of the décor elements they saw on their trip and applied it to their new location.

One of these, is the black, white and gold theme observed throughout the salon. “One of our greatest features are our gold-plated stations. Usually, you will see stations in silver, never in gold. This is what makes us unique.”

Look up, and it’s hard to miss the salon’s crystal chandeliers, which decorate the common areas of the salon. These were specifically Susan Segretto’s “touch”—inspired by the family’s trip to Paris.

IT’S IN THE DETAILS:

When designing their other locations, Salvatore and Susan Segretto made a conscious effort to focus on the details. This thought-process carried through in the Walton location as well; look closely, and you will see some of them.

The salon features 3D-plated wall tiles in the lobby, marble walls and alternating matte and gloss panels in the salon station area, door handles engraved in gold, and one-of-a kind diamond shaped-mirrors.

One of MODERN SALON’s favorite features were Zazu’s memorable “holographic” chairs in their shampoo area – they’re definitely one-of-a-kind.

That’s not all! Watch the video below and follow Anthony around the new Zazu location for a full tour.
