Is there a difference on how a cosmetologist and a barber work on men’s hair? You bet there is! Here, Esquire Grooming’s Tommy Tusa explains the difference between the two professions and how they approach the scissor-over-comb technique.
Tusa's thoughts:
“Barbering is patience. You really want to go fast? Slow down…someone who is going really fast doesn’t really impress me. When I see someone who works really deliberately and is very focused, and knows what they’re doing, that impresses me."
“Barbering is very much like sculpting. That’s why I like to do a lot of scissor-over-comb work. It’s not so clipper heavy-handed or attachment depending.”
“A cosmetologist is going to make a much, much, easier transition to barbering than what I’ve seen from the new barbers getting into cosmetology.”
