The American Crew All-Star Challenge highlights the outstanding world class talents in men’s grooming. The competition combines the art and science of men’s grooming and creating authentic style – the cut, the model and the photograph – to deliver the ultimate interpretation of the American Crew man.

Fifteen finalists recently competed in Brussels with two days of competition photo shoots on May 4 and 5, during which each cut and styled their model, then worked with American Crew Founder David Raccuglia to shoot and select the photo that would represent their final look. Adam Mir of the UK was announced as the American Crew 2016-2017 All-Star Challenge Global Winner on May 8th in a joint event with Revlon Style Masters.

Meet the Mexican finalist, Perla Monjaras:

Describe your professional career path.

I was born in a family that has had an impressive career in beauty, so I have been surrounded by this exciting profession my whole life. The members of my maternal family are mostly hairdressers, and my mother is the founder of the Galindo Lugo Stylists group. When I was very young, I began washing and drying clients’ hair for my uncle, this is where my education began. After graduating college as a psychology major at 22, I wanted to pursue my career but never quit hairdressing. In 2008, I returned to the salon, because I discovered that hairdressing is my passion and vocation. From 2000 to 2015 I took several hairstyling courses and I trained for a couple brands like WELLA and ALFAPARF. In 2015 I was introduced to Revlon and American Crew and was fascinated with the products. I fell in love with the American Crew cutting technique and the brand quickly became my favorite because it knows the needs of the customer to perfection.

Do you have any influences from your life that motivate and inspire you artistically?

My mother and father are my motor of life and my nephews, to whom I must set a good example for, are an important engine for my life. My main inspiration is the eagerness for improvement and the desire to work. Our work is very noble. It allows us to discover amazing places and people! I am also fascinated by everything filled with history: buildings, period clothing, and films/biographical documentaries of James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Maria Felix, River Dolores, Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth. I love the sensual aspect of history.
