How-To: Cameron Diaz's 'Girly, Modern' Updo Celebrity stylist George Northwood has worked with the strands of starlets including Alexa Chung, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. While in the U.K. for the premiere of her new film, Gambit, Cameron Diaz took advantage of her location to have her look styled by Northwood, who said he was inspired to create something “soft, girly and modern” for Cameron’s red carpet event.

Northwood gave MODERN a step-by-step guide to recreating this look for your client, whether she’s headed for a holiday party, wedding or night out on the town.

-Rough dry the hair, scrunching for texture and volume. Northwood used a Parlux hair dryer.

-Blow dry the fringe all forward with a small round brush, rounding at the end to create a soft edge. Part the fringe where desired.

-Spray Redken Quick Tease throughout the roots, excluding the fringe, which is kept flat.

How-To: Cameron Diaz's 'Girly, Modern' Updo -Backcomb the hair at the roots all over, again excluding the fringe. Northwood used a carbon comb.

-Hold the hair into a pony then twist on itself and wrap into a bun. Grip and pin into place around the outside of the bun.

-Pull bits out around the face. Tong them lightly for texture and wave definition. Northwood used T3 tongs.

-Finally, spray with Pureology hair spray and rough up the style a bit for a tussled look.
