Have you ever walked into a room for a specific reason, only to completely forget why you went in that room? It turns out that doors, themselves, are partly to blame for these strange memory lapses.  Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers an "event boundary" in the mind that separates one set of thoughts and memories from the next. Their studies show that the brain literally files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new room. Now we know why we walk back in the room where we came from to remember why we went there in the first place.
