Hollywood's Top Summer Hairstyles

By Kelly Cison | 08/09/2011 4:30:00 PM

Even with record high temps, our favorite celebrities stayed cool—and looked cool—with smart styles that were sleek and chic, not frizzy or stringy. The national heat wave didn’t wilt their looks. And since the dog days of summer aren’t over yet, we’ve rounded up the best hairstyles we’ve seen this sizzling summer (see all photos below) along with how-tos from Kristine Sinclair, hairstylist at Trini in Private Hair Salon & Spa in Miami, on her favorite heat-resistant night and day looks.

For Night:
“I do a side coif,” Kristine says. “You start with clean dry hair, then take small sections and roll them vertically around a 1-inch curling iron. Gather curls to one side and pin to head."

“It’s not a clean look," she adds. "It’s a loose, beachy look. You want to leave a few small pieces out. Then stick in a small flower for a final beautiful touch.”

For Day:
“If they are going to wear their hair down, rather than pinning it to the head, just create the loose curls and simply spray with a sea salt spray,” she recommends. “It’s an easy look with this weather.”

The biggest problem for most clients? Hair that frizzes in the humidity. To combat, they must remove the moisture that’s swelling their hair cuticles, says Kristine. Recommend that they blowdry their hair upside down until completely dry. Then smooth with a brush, and apply a tiny bit of wax to seal the cuticle. “My favorite wax is Rough Paste by Redken,” Kristine says. “You can piece out the layers of the hair with wax. It’s better than hairspray and gives second-day hair.”

I think Kelly missed the mark completely! How about even ONE short hair "do", talk about "cool". I hate that all these articles feature L O N G hair! Do you forget how many crazy-cute,chic short cuts are running around this country?? Went to Atlanta, and Amelia Florida this July, these ladies know how to rock the sporty-sexy-chic "do's"!! I have been a stylist for 30 years, 15 of those in Chicago area, can't believe you didn't include some looks from our own "windy city" FAIL!

I am not so sure about the advise of blow drying hair that tends to frizz upside and removing all the moisture. The last thing you want to do is blow it dry upside down and then run a brush through it, you have just created huge amounts of frizz. Curly hair needs all the moisture it can get to remain fizz less. The more good moisture it has the less chance is has for looking for it elsewhere. SOrry but I have to disagree with you on that one
