I've finally realized the problem is me. The more I mess with it, the crazier it is. As any curl aficionado will tell you, the key to good curls is "less is more." Less blowdrying, less brushing, less fiddling with the hair in general. But there's one thing you can do more of-products!

In today's world of beauty products, there are more curl-friendly stylers than ever. There are lines devoted to curly girls-like Deva Curl (devachansalon.com) and Ouidad (ouidad.com)-and even an entire site devoted to stylists who work with curly clients (curlstylist.com).

As a beauty editor, I receive tons of amazing products devoted to curls. But last night, none of these were to be found as I am in the midst of a move. So I dug around my fiance's bathroom cabinets to see what was available. Here's the product cocktail I came up with: Alterna's Caviar Anti-Aging Texture styling crème (alternahaircare.com), Thermafuse's Heat Smart Serum (thermafuse.com) and from TIGI's Love Peace and the Planet line, Eco Freako Cherry Almond Texturizer (tigihaircare.com).
A Curl Revelation

So as you can see, I got creative. But it worked! I emulsified all three products in my palm and worked it into my towel-dried hair. Then I let it air dry for an hour or two before putting it into a ponytail (still damp) and going to bed. I woke up with frizz-free, relatively tame curls. And the best part is-my hair hasn't gotten bigger throughout the day. I'm actually having a good hair day!

Here's my theory: The Alterna styling crème provided the base of control and curl definition. The Thermafuse Serum gave me shine and the TIGI texturizer gave an added boost of control that kept it all in place throughout the day. The result has been so satisfying I might just start wearing my hair curly more often!
