Hair Scent

Hair fragrance/scent in shampoos, conditioners and styling products has and always will play an essential role for beauty professionals in the salon industry. Typically, when a client walks into a salon, and wants a hair cut, you as the hair stylist will start your routine by washing their hair. The simple function of washing hair becomes a sensory experience…when you ask your client if they like the smell of the shampoo/conditioner, typically their answer is along the lines of, “It smells great.”

If you’re a product-savvy hair stylist, you probably critique products more on their performance and results – and that is important. However, when your client leaves your salon, not only will they be wearing a new cut, they will be wearing a new fragrance. Hair scent is a crucial aspect of whether or not your client will continue to enjoy their new style all day long.

Recently, several new products have surfaced that are challenging popular hair-care scents like rosemary, coconut and citrus.

Check these out:

Hair Scent TIGI’s Catwalk Your Highness Elevating Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner features top notes of litchi and quince, with hints of white chocolate and orris root.

Fusion Brands also came out with a new refreshing hair fragrance, Clean, which claims to evoke a “fresh out of the shower” scent.
Hair Shots, a series of heat-activated fragrances, are handy spray-in portable scents. They are ideal products for women who are active, and tend to get sweaty and sticky. From girls who play sports to moms at the gym, if your client says their hair suffers from odor, you may want to recommend this product. It comes in sugary scents like: coconut mango, cotton candy, cupcake, strawberry and watermelon. They also come in two less sugary scents — Asian green and bamboo — which came out this month.

Hair absorbs more scent than skin (think about how quickly it picks up odors like cigarette or BBQ smoke.) If your clients are looking to cover smoky odors you may want to recommend Pure & Petal Hair Fragrances — they contain natural essential oils, nourishing silk protein and pro-vitamin B5. Spray a little of this product on your client’s hair, and say, “Goodbye” smoky smell!  Hair Scent

Be wary though, you also have to consider that some customers prefer milder-smelling products. You can make a perfume for each individual, but hair products need to please all of your customers. If possible, you may want to give your clients a choice between a couple different scents before you automatically apply it to their hair.

Remember: Good-smelling hair + Awesome hair cut = HAPPY CLIENT.

That’s it for now! Tune in next time,

Lauren
