Frank Barbosa

, celebrity stylist and go-to wedding hair guru at Frank Antonio Hair & Makeup in Newport, RI, recommends that whether your clients go for an up-do, chignon or wear their hair long and loose, the trend now is moving away from formal styles to more relaxed, romantic looks. He says the modern bride does not want to be overdone-her style should look effortless. "I'm seeing hair worn down with playful but polished waves," he says. "Even hair that's pulled back or worn up has a softer, care-free feeling."

Here are some of summer bridal hair tips you should try recommending to your clients:

  • Have your client put together a look book of pages torn out from magazines and print-outs from wedding websites. This will be a handy tool for them and for you.
  • After she puts together a look book, pick out three styles and have her choose from them. If she would like, you can recommend that she can book a few different appointments beforehand to try out all three separate looks.
  • A few weeks before the big day, schedule a trial hair date. This is the time you can fine-tune her final chosen style so that all goes well on her wedding day.
  • Make sure you're recommending the products you are using to achieve her hair style. This way, she will be able to upkeep her dashing bridal style all day long. TIP: You can even recommend to her to carry a travel hair spray! Two mainstays in Barbosa's own in-salon and travel wedding hair kits: René Furterer Fioravanti Shine Enhancing No Rinse Detangling Spray and Styling Finishing Spray Instant Hold, which helps hair stay in place.
