A Blizzard is swirling around Bryant Park in New York City. It's day zero…the day before Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicks off.  The tents are up.  Well "up-ish".  The work crew has braved the storm and is putting in the last minute touches like setting up chairs and erecting runways. More than a foot of snow has fallen already, but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of action in and around fashion central (as I call it).

 Fashion Week - Day Zero

This is a particularly bittersweet New York Fashion Week because it is the last time the shows will take place in Bryant Park. The battle to stay in the picturesque space has been waged for the past couple years, but the pleas to remain in the park have fallen on deaf ears.  Fashionistas must say au revoir to Bryant Park in one week and BONJOUR to its new home come September.

That's not to say the September shows (for the Spring Summer 2011 season) will be in a dump for crying out loud.  Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is moving on up (and west) to Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center. While this is great news for some of us (okay…me) it's a bit 40 blocks too nort

h for many rooted to the fashion district, just blocks from Bryant Park.

Meanwhile, I'm gearing up for the 60-ish or more shows I am determined to cover over the next 7 days. My two faves for tomorrow are L.A.M.B. (sponsored by Moroccanoil ) and MIK Cire (sponsored by Rusk).  I also have a shoot with Aveda's Lisa Vann, owner of Etherea in Seattle.

And so it begins.
