As hard as it is to believe, John Paul DeJoria, CEO and co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems, has never…that’s right NEVER…been honored by the salon industry! He has received awards and nods worldwide for his charitable work but has yet to be acknowledged by the salon world for his contributions.
The members of Intercoiffure America/Canada decided to right that wrong and gave him the VISIONARY OF THE YEAR AWARD at the most recent Trend Luncheon held this past Monday at the Waldorf Hotel in New York City.
“Corporations can and should change the world for the better,” he says. “We have the perspective to leave the world a better place for our having been there.”

The annual campaign raised more than $939,000 for charities such as Cancer Schmancer, Food4Africa, Leeza's Place. Larry King Cardiac Foundation, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and City of Hope.
John Paul and Eloise DeJoria participate in Amnesty International's recent human rights awareness campaign. John Paul Mitchell Systems has partnered with Amnesty International for the Holiday 2009 season, donating a portion of the holiday promotion proceeds to the organization.

“Giving back is the new black,” he said to me after the presentation. “We are just renters on this planet and it’s important to leave the world in better shape for those who follow.” I grabbed my video camera and asked him how salon owners and stylists can and should follow in his footsteps and do more for their own communities and the world….
