Braids were everywhere during the most recent Fashion Week in New York City for the fall/winter 2010 collections. Orlando Pita made them even more exciting by created fishtail braids for the Doo Ri show, sponsored by T3. "It's an ideal look because it can be used to dress an outfit up or down. The fishtail braid is more interesting and elegant."

While most professional hairdressers learned fishtailing in Beauty School, Pita tweaks the technique slightly to make it more modern and perfect for the runway.

Stay close to the head, pulling in pieces
from the outside as you braid down the side.
Before securing with an elastic, push up on the braid to create a looser/messier look. Braid until it is long enough to reach
the middle of the back of the head.

Begin the second braid on the
opposite side of the head.
Pull the braids together at the middle of the
back of the head and tie with a piece of
thread that matches the haircolor.
Cut the elastics out of the braids.
