Our sister publication, SALON TODAY, holds an annual competition recognizing salons in the United States called the SALON TODAY 200. This award is quite the honor. Just 200 salons each year are selected and profiled in a special January issue.
Since 1997, the competition has given the nod to the fastest-growing salons in North America. This year SALON TODAY is going beyond growth to honor all the “best business practices” that contribute to success. The application is dramatically different from the past (8 pages!) but that’s because you…the owner…can pick and choose your own best practice sections!
I spoke to Stacey Soble, SALON TODAY Editor in Chief, and asked her why the competition changed this year. “While growth is still a good barometer for a healthy business,” she says, “we recognize it’s not the only measurement of success. We also acknowledge that the current economic climate may make growth difficult even for the best businesses—while growth still is a competition category, it’s now one of eleven options that applicants can choose.”
2010 applicants will be invited to answer brief questions and submit essays in one or more of the following categories: growth, salary and benefits, retention, customer service, recruitment and training, advanced education, marketing, environmental sustainability, inventory, retail, and technology.
I have yet to interview a “winning” salon owner who has NOT mentioned being included in SALON TODAY 200. It is a very cool thing, and totally worth mention, bragging about and celebrating.
Applications are due September 15 so interested salon owners (YOU!!!!) better get on it. Download your entry from salontoday200.com or contact Joyce Alverio at 847-415-8037.
